  • Success at the Royal Academy

    Published 12/01/23

The Visual Art department celebrates yet more success for our students.

Two of our Year 12 Fine Art students have been successful in their recent application to the Royal Academy of Art’s attRAct one-year online programme of study. Nationally, all students aged 15-19 were eligible to apply for this prestigious opportunity. After their letter of application was received, the shortlisted students then had to prepare a response to a set task, ready for an online interview. We are delighted to inform you that Abby Wood and Thomas Atkinson have secured places and will embark on this programme of study towards the end of January with the Royal Academy.

The course will include workshops with well-known contemporary artists, discussion groups, work placement opportunities and they will complete practical tasks, all of which can be included in their A level portfolios of work. This follows from our success last year, when two of our Year 11 Photography students completed the attRAct programme of study.

  • Success in local photography competition

    Published 14/12/22

We're delighted to share the news of Year 7 student Edward Coles, who secured a first place win in the under 12 "Wild About Wootton" competition and his wonderful artwork "Butterfly Camouflage" is pictured above.

Pictured: Edward, with his winning artwork "Butterfly Camouflage"

The competition, which is run by Wootton Parish Council, received more than 100 entries. Edward's artwork was chosen as the under 12 winner by a number of independent judges, and he received a £50 Amazon gift-card as a prize for his fantastic submission.

During the judging stage of the competition, it was noted by an expert in butterflies that the butterfly captured in Edward's entry had not been previously sighted in Northampton in the past - making his artwork all the more unique! Edward was then put in touch with David James, Northamptonshire Butterfly Recorder, to discuss more about his sighting.

Edward's photograph, along with all the other winners, will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Wootton Mag, so please keep your eyes out for this to read more about the competition!

  • Junior Strictly Northampton success for Year 5&6

    Published 16/11/22

On Saturday 12 November, we entered two teams from Year 5 and 6 into the final of the Junior Strictly Northampton competition. In the morning, both teams competed against 14 other schools from Northampton. Our red team placed 1st, advancing to the next round, and our yellow team placed 2nd 🎉

Following their 1st place win in the morning, the red team came back to compete in the afternoon against the winners of the second round of the competition final, of which there were 12 schools.

We were up first to dance, and it was very very close and literally came down to a finger. The red team danced very well considering they had been there 6 hours but unfortunately, Woodland View just beat us, and we took home 2nd place. A massive well done to the red team for securing a 2nd place win out of all 26 teams involved - a brilliant result!

Both teams had a great time at the competition and both me and Mrs Honeywood are very proud of them! The teams trained extremely hard for the competition. Practising 2 nights after school and most lunchtimes, well done to you all for your incredible hard work.

We would like to say a special thank you to Rose D, Holly S and Ollie H (an ex-student and brother of Jasmine who competed) for giving up their time to come and help train both teams.

⁃ Miss Carter (Year 6 Class Teacher)
