Year 7 student Harrison Khalil has been racing up a storm and has now passed all his testing and has gained his British Motorsport Association race license!
Harrison has shown a great deal of determination and raced incredibly well as part of the recent FASTR WMKC 2023 Championship and won in his class, this is an amazing achievement for him considering it’s only his second professional race.
We are delighted to share Year 7 Isla Coles' wonderful response to Healthy Schools Northamptonshire's recent 'what does good mental health look like' competition.
Entrants to the competition were tasked with creating their own piece of artwork, which could be a painting, drawing, comic, graffiti art or even sculpture. Isla's beautiful painting is pictured above and is really something to behold.
Year 10 Monty secures his place in the Northampton Saints Player Development Group
Published 01/03/23
Well done to Year 10 student Monty Lee, for securing a place in the Northampton Saints PDG (Player Development Group). This fantastic achievement puts him in the top 60 boys for his age within Northamptonshire.
Monty has been playing rugby for the Saints DPP (Development Player Pathway) for nearly 18 months, alongside his club rugby at The Casuals where he has been playing for four years. Last week he was given the great news that he had picked for the PDG which he has been working hard towards with the hope to take his Rugby skills further.
Congratulations Monty, we wish you every success in the future!
Congratulations are in order for Year 5 student Freya who finished 4th in the Northamptonshire County Cross-Country Championships for Year 5 girls on Saturday 21 January. After reaching the finish line, Freya noted “Everything was hurting, I tried so hard and I really enjoyed it!” Despite the very chilly conditions over the weekend, Freya worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of herself and the result!
Following her success in the Northamptonshire County Cross-Country Championships, Freya has now been selected to represent Northamptonshire on Saturday 4 March in the Anglian Trophy Cross Country Championships. What an incredible achievement.
We wish you lots of luck, and look forward to hearing how you get on!
The Visual Art department celebrates yet more success for our students.
Two of our Year 12 Fine Art students have been successful in their recent application to the Royal Academy of Art’s attRAct one-year online programme of study. Nationally, all students aged 15-19 were eligible to apply for this prestigious opportunity. After their letter of application was received, the shortlisted students then had to prepare a response to a set task, ready for an online interview. We are delighted to inform you that Abby Wood and Thomas Atkinson have secured places and will embark on this programme of study towards the end of January with the Royal Academy.
The course will include workshops with well-known contemporary artists, discussion groups, work placement opportunities and they will complete practical tasks, all of which can be included in their A level portfolios of work. This follows from our success last year, when two of our Year 11 Photography students completed the attRAct programme of study.
We are pleased to share that Year 7 student Amy J was recently awarded a Merit in the MTB Entry Level Award in Music Performance. For the examination, she played three recitals - The Old Man, Old Bone and Under the Acacia Tree. The examiner was very keen to note "this was a lovely performance of This Old Man. The forte section in the middle was nice and strong" and "There was some lovely legato playing in the Acacia Tree".
The examiner also praised Amy for how well-prepared she was for the exam, demonstrating the hard working HPL skills of practice, adding "your playing was confident throughout and the exercises were excellent".
Well done to Year 10 student Chelsea who was recently successful in her audition for A World Divided - "An epic edge-of-your-seat journey with songs that will touch your soul." Chelsea secured a role as part of the ensemble team and will feature in the production which will come to MK Theatre and Aylesbury Theatre in 2023.
Chelsea, who has a passion for Performing Arts, is also currently rehearsing for Rare Productions Panto Cinderella in Stantonbury Theatre.
Both Chelsea and her sister Scarlett attend True Colours Performing Arts and Emil Dale Academy, and both the girls are preparing for a showcase with Emil Dale to be held in February 2023.
We're delighted to share the news of Year 7 student Edward Coles, who secured a first place win in the under 12 "Wild About Wootton" competition and his wonderful artwork "Butterfly Camouflage" is pictured above.
The competition, which is run by Wootton Parish Council, received more than 100 entries. Edward's artwork was chosen as the under 12 winner by a number of independent judges, and he received a £50 Amazon gift-card as a prize for his fantastic submission.
During the judging stage of the competition, it was noted by an expert in butterflies that the butterfly captured in Edward's entry had not been previously sighted in Northampton in the past - making his artwork all the more unique! Edward was then put in touch with David James, Northamptonshire Butterfly Recorder, to discuss more about his sighting.
Edward's photograph, along with all the other winners, will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Wootton Mag, so please keep your eyes out for this to read more about the competition!
